Katherine E. Deacon Schaum | Katherine E. "Kitty" Deacon was born October 24, 1925 and was raised in Trenton NJ. She began her working career at age 13 during the Great Depression. Right out of high school, Kitty served as a nurse for the US Army Medical Corps at Ft. Dix during WWII. In 1945, she married (1st) Knole Shepherd "Bud" Deacon, Jr. and had four children. They lived in Delanco from 1945 until 1953, then moved to Prescott, Arizona where she and Bud operated a truck stop in Chino Valley. She also sold real estate and modeled at Goldwaters Department Store, where she became friendly with Barry Goldwater. She subsequently worked for Barry Goldwater's Senatorial campaign. In April 1965 she married (2nd) William Thorpe "Bill" Schuam. They moved to El Sobranye, California and had one additional child. They moved to Cool, California and built a home in in Auburn Lake Trails where Kitty sold real estate.
